Grand Terre

Nouméa

The bustling cosmopolitan capital of New Caledonia offers the best of so many different worlds making it the ideal conference or incentive destination.Noumea is set by the lagoon with beautiful bays extending around the city, with attractive cultural and culinary offerings for visitors, and a thriving nightlife offering a wide variety of nightclubs and open air bars. Everything is located close by, providing ease of access to many venues.  The international airport is just 40 minutes north and the domestic airport is just 15 minutes from the centre of town.

West Coast

The West Coast of the mainland is characterised by both large spaces favouring cattle farming and a lagoon of stunning beauty, the West Coast is also host to a rich cultural heritage.  The 5-star Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Spa and Golf Resort is located this region, only a 90 minute drive north of Noumea.

East Coast

The central mountain range of the mainland forms a natural boundary that divides the east and west. Exposed to strong winds and is therefore more humid, the eastern coast offers magnificent scenery with sumptuous flora. With a population of largely Melanesian origin, the east has also retained a particularly charming flavour of authenticity.  A great pre or post touring option for more intrepid travellers.

Great South

The Great South is a day or half day trip from Noumea and is home to the grand Blue River Provincial Park offering 4WD tours, waterfalls, kayaking, mountain biking and trekking options.  On the south western coast, the N’Dua Reserve offers spectacular views over the Bay of Prony where humpback whales come to mate in the winter months.

The Islands

Isle of Pines

Bathed in crystalline waters and ringed by signature tall pines – an endemic tree species –  l’Île des Pins is the jewel of New Caledonia.   A fantastic pre and post touring option with world class accommodation at the 5 star Le Meridien Ile des Pins –  enjoy the isolation and relax in this tropical paradise.   Highlights include sailing aboard a traditional outrigger canoe and island tours showcasing the natural wonders of this isle.  The daily 30 minute flights depart from Magenta Domestic Airport.

Loyalty Islands

  • The four raised coral islands, Mare, Tiga, Lifou and Ouvea, lie about 100 km to the east of the mainland.
  • Ouvea’s lagoon, protected by a barrier reef and a chain of islets, consists of nearly 25 km of breathtaking sand beaches along a turquoise sea.
  • Lifou, the largest, is a raised atoll with soaring cliffs and fine sand beaches marking the contours of the island.
  • Mare is an island of real contrasts, with high cliffs, basalt rocks, dark forests, caves and powdery white sand beaches lining the clear waters of the lagoon. The Loyalty Islands offer a relaxing pre and post touring option.
